Incredible Hulk; Marvel Legends Galactus Series 9
Art Design: Carded window box that displays the 8" action figure with the Incredible Hulk #1 comic book in the background. The Hulk set includes the left arm of Galactus. Collectors who buy the other six figures in Series 9 can put together a giant-size Galactus.
Hulk History: Jack Kirby and Stan Lee created the Incredible Hulk and in May 1962 he was introduced in his own title which lasted six issues. The original Gray Hulk only lasted one issue. The Hulk became green because the gray color could not be reproduced in a uniform manner by the printing technology of that era. In 1986, Marvel Comics changed the Hulk back into the Gray Hulk until 1991. Jack Kirby's art gave the Hulk his most memorable savage qualities. Jack Kirby had an amazing ability to draw powerful, menacing, chunky characters; and the Hulk was perfect for his talents. Check out the Hulk's monstrous visage!
Incredible Hulk #1 (May 1962): Has the classic origin story of the Hulk, and his first adventure when he is kidnapped by the Gargoyle (who looks like Gremlin from the Mecha-Hulk set)
Two Hulks: This Marvel Legends Hulk is the original Gray Hulk, and the variant is the green Hulk. I chose to get the green Hulk because the Gray Hulk was painted with green splotches under the gray paint. That is not how Jack Kirby drew him, and it is not how Stan Goldberg originally colored the Hulk. It just looks like a bad paint job. The green Hulk on the other hand looks great. This Hulk is a menacing dark green color, as he appeared in comic books during his early years.
Headsculpt: What a great sculpt in keeping with the spirit of Jack Kirby's art! This is the Savage Hulk! He even seems to have different expressions based on how you pose the head.
Articulation: This body is not only ultra-articulated, but it is also well balanced so that it is easy to pose the Hulk even walking on his toes. The joints are nice and tight, so he can hold any pose. The wrists have a cut joint and the hands can be opened and closed. One hand has the fingers clenched so that the hand can be closed into a fist. Even the thumbs are jointed and movable! The waist has a cut joint at the pants and a ball joint above it for maximum flexibility. This Hulk rocks!
Outfit: The Hulk is dressed in his trademark purple pants. These are molded-on to the figure, and they look great on the thick legs and calves.
Market: This figure is available at most x-mart stores, Toys R Us, KB Toys and online for under $9.
Overall: This Hulk literally channels Jack Kirby's artistic vision! Does the Savage Hulk from Marvel Legends Series 1 look more brutal? Which Hulk captures the essence of the character?
