Power Team Elite's Fishing Exploration Unit
Art Design: This is a simple, no-frills window box which has photos of the other thirteen 12" action figures in this Power Team Elite series on the back of the box.
Update: 8/14/06: Here is another version of this set. It has a bearded figure and is part of the "Sport & Adventure" series. The gear is the same, but the box layout is different.
Headsculpt: This is another one of those cool headsculpts that looks like a famous movie star. This 12" action figure looks a lot like Kevin Spacey, but it could also be Randy Quaid when he was younger and leaner.
Articulation: The new Power Team figures have the Dragon-style ultra-articulated posability plus the elbows are connected by a peg so that they swivel a full 360 degrees.
The Outfit is composed of a 1950s retro-style plaid shirt of various shades of yellow, brown, green, and black. My grandfather used to love wearing those plaid shirts. I am pretty sure he had one just like this. Anyone who has a soft spot for the styles of the 1950s and early 1960s will appreciate this. The plaid pattern is sewn into the fabric of the shirts, not silk-screened. The fabric is woven in a 1:6 scale pattern. The pants are water-resistant nylon cargo/running  pants without pockets. The pants have ties at the ankles (for wading into water?). A boonie/fishing hat is also included. The sneakers are white with black tops and they look like the old Keds or Converse sneakers.
The Gear includes red sunglasses; a couple of colorful and well-detailed fish; a realistic fishing net; a fishing rod that is twelve inches long with fifteen inches of line and a hook; and a folding lounge chair. The crank on the fishing reel actually turns. This is a pretty good set, especially for $10.
Market: These figures have been available at supermarkets, KB Toys,   JC Penney, and online. Big Lots does not seem to be carrying Power Team anymore, and that's a shame. Send Big Lots an e-mail and let them know that you like the Power Team sets
Overall: This is an amazing set for $9.99! Even if you aren't into fishing, or plaid shirts; the Kevin Spacey headsculpt on a top-notch action figure makes it a great value.
