No-Face, 12" Action Man's enemy
Art Design: This carded figure features an all-out comic book style art attack; as is the norm with the 12" Action Man figures! The only problem I have with this figure is that the name seems very uninspired. How about Jigsaw? Jughead? Crusty? Bumpy? Lumpy? Are all the good names taken? Since this was one of the last of the 12" Action Man figures, I wonder if Hasbro's creative well had run dry? Yet No-Face is a very creatively creepy figure!
Headsculpt: As you can see from the photos, No-Face is a pretty gross guy. No Face looks like he could be the son of a marriage between the Toxic Avenger and a zombie. No-Face has a lot of crusty little gray bumps covering the skin that surrounds all those open sores on his body (or is he just skinless?). For anyone who loves horror, No Face is an awesome action figure. If you need a really nasty villain for your GI Joes (or Action Men), No Face is the man for the job!
Masks: This figure includes a couple of very cool masks. The bandage-face mask looks really good on the No Face figure, and you could also use it to cover the face of an injured action figure for a medical diorama. The sullen looking Action Man mask is extra creepy because the eye holes are cut out so that No Face can look through the mask. The Action Man mask features a large GI Joe scar on the left cheek. This is unusual because most of the recent Action Man figures don't have any scar, and in others the scar had been diminished to a very small size. If you look at the photo of the back of the Action Man mask, the masks are made of thick rubber and they have velcro tabs on the back which held on very well and provided a tight fit.
Articulation: The figure has the basic articulation which Hasbro uses for most of the Action Man villains. The body is similar to a basic GI Joe 12" action figure, and not as well articulated as a typical Power Team or Sideshow Toys figure.
Outfit and Gear: No Face has a molded-on belt. black pants, and boots. He also includes a very well made brown trenchcoat and some kind of sword that looks like it was stolen from the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers
Market: The No-Face figures are available from online dealers, Yahoo or e-bay auctions and range at a cost of about $15 plus shipping.
Overall: This creepy No Face critter is a must have for a horror movie fan like me. The masks and trenchcoat are very nice. Considering the price, No Face is a great example of how Hasbro can really provide a lot of bang for a low price when they want to. Too bad Hasbro pulled the plug on their 12" Action Man line, it was the home of a lot of fun ideas. Fortunately the 40th Anniversary Action Man retro figures are out (check back soon for a review!)!
