Action Man Kongo Mission
Art Design: Hasbro owns and produces both GI Joe (in the USA) and Action Man (in Europe). However, the Action Man boxes usually have more colorful comic book style art than the GI Joe boxes. Kongo Mission is no exception, with a couple of drawings of Kongo the Action Man gorilla attacking what looks like one of Doctor X's robots (similar to a Cobra Crimson Guard). Dr. X is the leader of Action Man's enemies. Action Man has a pretty large cast of enemies to fight, such as Professor Gangrene, the Toxic Robot, Anti-Freeze, Tempest, and Dr. X 2002, among many others.
Headsculpt: This Action Man has a gritty face with a light beard (or heavy stubble). Not only does he look angry, but the GI Joe scar on his face is very pronounced. This is one serious dude.Body: The big bulky Action Man
muscle body has been modified a bit. His cut-joint biceps are smaller, and his arms are less muscular. His waist seems to have been slightly trimmed also. The torso has a nice green shirt and a harness with a couple of grenades and knife and a sheath molded on. The figure would have been much  better with just the molded-on shirt and dog-tags. The molded-on dog-tags are very detailed, and it looks great. The molded-on
bandages with the snake-bite on his arm are an excellent sculpt and paint application. The contrasting colors of the red fang marks and orange bleed-through on the white gauze bandaging make a dramatic impression.
Outfit: Action Man is equipped with black
boots, gray pants, and an olive boonie hat that is perfect for this figure. This Action Man looks like a modern Rambo. Last but not least is the snake and the gorilla! This set brings not just one, but two wild critters! That should be a record for a Hasbro GI Joe or Action Man set. Both of these beasts are creative new versions  of 1970s Adventure Team ideas.
The Cobra: The green cobra is molded to coil around the Action Man's leg. The snake looks kind of funny, but it has nice details, including a tongue, red gums, and fangs. The Cobra's hood is flared and the mouth is open and it's two sharp fangs are ready to bite again. Then along comes the Action Man gorilla. An ally of Action Man, he wears a green AM vest which seems like body armor. The vest also holds a couple of missiles that fit on Action Man's missile-launching rifle. What kind of monkey business does Action Man and his buddy Kongo get into? Kongo's paws and feet all have wheels. Kongo is pretty heavy and he can roll very fast on flat surfaces. Kongo is made of hard plastic, and he has a voice chip which emits a long, loud roar when the AM button on his chest is pressed. Kongo can knock over enemy soldiers as he roars through them. Kongo is big and  ugly, and he is bigger than the King Kong movie's action figures. Kongo may be the current de facto King of the Jungle!
Price and Availability: The Kongo Mission costs 24.95
in British Pounds, which is around $40-45 U.S. dollars. It is available to Action Man collectors at most Toys R Us in Europe and from other online dealers.
Overall: The Kongo Mission applies new ideas to 1970s Adventure Team sets. It is a great set in its own right, and children should have as much fun with this set as a previous generation had with The Capture of the Pygmy Gorilla back in the 1970s.
