Power Team's Chris Rock, Marine
Packaging: Power Team seems to box its action figures as "World Peacekeepers" or "Power Team" or some other names, but for ease of identification and discussion, I will identify them all as "Power Team." The new boxes have more contrasting shades of green against reds. The front is a window box, and the back has photos of various other Power Team figures and vehicles. These figures have three or four twist-ties and are easy to remove from the box without any damage to the box.
The Figure and Headsculpt: After several years of Tom Cruise-type faces and no olive-skinned Hispanics or African-American figures, the Power Team has unleashed about five different African- American headsculpts. Most of the new black figures have the generic look which is similar to what G.I. Joe has done in the past. However, the Marine figure looks a lot like Chris Rock! Last year, many collectors noticed that some of the figures looked like Sean Connery, and this year's sets also have a figure that looks alot like Russell Crowe. These knock-offs of the famous faces are pretty cool to find on the toy shelves. The Power Team body is the Action Man style, and the neckpost is the Starting Line-Up 2000 style which is a one piece neck and head which pops onto a ball link inside the chest cavity. Since Action Man bodies are somewhat blocky compared to GI Joe or Dragon, the head also is a bit fatter. So while it looks like Chris Rock, it is better described as Chris Rock if he were on Steroids.
The Outfit and Gear: The outfit is pretty cool Desert Camo look. It looks like Desert Storm camo, not the newer 2001 Desert Camo. The uniform is very well tailored and fits great. The helmet has the camouflage silk-screened on and it looks good too. The figure has dog-tags and brings a M.O.P.P. head covering and mask. Also included is a super-cool looking M-16, grenades, ammo pouches, canteens, binoculars, gloves, knife & holster, and more!
Overall: For $7.99 this set is incredible, and getting an action figure that really looks like Chris Rock is an extra plus!! This set is amazing, and Power Team is doing a great job competing against Formative Soldiers of The World which is the other action figure that markets at the $7.99 price-point. Power Team is sold at Big Lots and various online retailers.
