Art Design: Another colorful Marvel Legends clear carded action figure. The backing card holds the comic book and the back of the card has more detailed information about the superhero, in this case THE BEAST.
Headsculpt: The headsculpt on THE BEAST is outstanding. For those of us who are fans of the Jack Kirby DEMON character, the BEAST could easily be a close relative of the DEMON. The facial sculpting is very detailed and crisp.
The Figure: The BEAST is almost seven inches tall. He has a very muscular physique and outstanding articulation. Even his individual claw-like fingers are poseable. His toes can also be individually posed, and his chest is striated and he has washboard abs. The sculpting on the BEAST's body is very carefully detailed and the paint applications are outstanding. The BEAST is supposed to be a bit hairy & furry, and his action figure gets this look thanks to the textured bas-relief of the body surface which is highlighted in black thus giving the illusion of thousands of tiny black hairs on the body of the BEAST. This figure received a lot of artistic effort and some very outstanding sculpting and attention to detail.
GEAR: The Marvel Legends' BEAST set includes a stand which looks like a handrail, and a comic book which is a reprint of an old X-MEN from 1990. The comic book is a bit disappointing as it is not a solo BEAST story, but an X-MEN tale which does not even feature the BEAST as a main character.
Overall: The Marvel Legends' BEAST is a good value and usually sells at $6.78 at Wal-Mart and other retail stores. The Beast would be a great subject for a superhero Photo-Story because he is so well sculpted and poseable! The BEAST is an excellent figure for a collector's display case or for kid's play.
