Packaging: The Formative Soldiers of the World has had the same exact box and gray on blue colors for about the past ten years. It is not an exciting box, but at least you know what it is when you see it! The figure and gear are twist-tied to the backing card, so it is not hard to remove without damaging the card or the box.
Figure: Most of the SOTW on the shelves feature the Dragon-like "ultra-articulated" bodies. The boxes with the Dragon-like bodies say "Outstanding Articulation" on a blurb on the front of the box inside a starburst. The heads on this series are easily interchangeable with the CC Joes, Lanard Ultra Corps!, and Action Man figures. Some of the heads are very well done and are great for mixing some variety into your collection.
Outfit and Gear: The SOTW Vietnam ERDL uniforms and Tiger Stripe outfits are very colorful. The colors are crisp and they do not look cheaply printed. The MAC V SOG figure brings a machine gun, side-arm & holster, grenades, web-belt, harness, ammo pouches, canteens, and a bandana.
Overall: The headsculpt and uniform alone are worth more than the price of $7.99. The rest of the set is gravy. SOTW has been gradually improving the quality of the gear and the figures, and the $7.99 price point is great for parents who want to supply their kids with a G.I. Joe-like Squad without spending an arm and a leg. For under $10. each, parents can nowadays buy a variety of G.I. Joes, Max Steel, Ultra Corps!, Power Team, Action Man, and SOTW.
